Short answer
Before a deck goes to a client, it often still carries things that do not belong there: speaker notes with prices or internal hints, comments with your colleagues' names, author and company in the file properties, hidden backup slides. This tool shows all of it at a glance and writes a copy without whatever you tick. Nothing changes on the slides themselves. In PowerPoint for Windows the built-in way is the Document Inspector (File, Info, Check for Issues, Inspect Document); in PowerPoint for Mac there is no option to remove personal information, according to Microsoft support. This tool runs in any browser, Mac included. One of our test decks listed 5 names in its comment list without a single comment left in it.

What is removed and what stays
Removed
- The speaker notes of every slide, including pictures in the notes
- Comments and replies, old and new style, and the list of people who commented
- Author, Last modified by, Company, Manager, Title, Subject, Tags and Comments in the file properties, plus custom properties, for example from SharePoint
- On request: hidden slides, with their notes and pictures
Stays as it is
- Everything you can see on the slides: text, pictures, charts, animations and the design
- Sensitivity labels (Microsoft Purview) that your company applied
- The file's created and modified dates
- Objects off the slide and objects formatted as invisible: the Document Inspector in PowerPoint for Windows finds those
How to do it in PowerPoint itself
Document Inspector (Windows)
File, Info, Check for Issues, Inspect Document. Tick the categories, choose Inspect and then Remove All for each finding. Microsoft strongly recommends doing this on a copy, because removed data cannot always be restored.
On a Mac
PowerPoint for Mac has no option to remove personal information; Microsoft support confirmed this when asked in June 2024. Word for Mac can do it on save, PowerPoint cannot.
Pictures in the notes
According to Microsoft, the Document Inspector cannot remove pictures added to the Notes section. This tool removes the notes pages completely, pictures included.
Why nothing is uploaded
The tool runs as a program in your browser. The presentation is opened and read there, and you get the result as a download. It is not sent to Slaide or any other server.
The first time, the browser loads the tool's own code once, not your file. You can check this yourself in the developer tools under Network.
Frequently asked questions about removing notes and personal data
Is the tool free?
Yes. No account, no watermark and no limit on how many presentations you clean.
Is my presentation uploaded?
No. The file is opened in your browser and never leaves your device, which is exactly what you want for a deck with internal notes.
Does anything change on the slides?
No. Text, pictures, charts, animations and the design stay as they are. Only what you ticked is removed; hidden slides only if you choose that yourself.
Can I keep a copy of the notes first?
Yes: export them first with the "Export PowerPoint notes" tool as a Word file, then clean the deck. Your original stays unchanged anyway, because the tool writes a copy.
Why are there names in the comment list when I see no comments?
PowerPoint keeps its own list of the people who commented in the file. It can stay behind after the comments are deleted; one of our test decks listed 5 names this way without a single comment. With "Comments" ticked, the tool removes that list too.
Does it work with .ppt files and on a Mac?
On a Mac, on Windows and on phones, yes, in any current browser. Old .ppt files, no: open them in PowerPoint and save as .pptx. Files can be up to 400 MB.
