Three ways to make a presentation with ChatGPT
From plain text to a finished file. Which one fits depends on how much of the design you want to do yourself.
1. In the chat: outline, slide text, speaker notes
This works on every plan. You describe the occasion, audience and goal; ChatGPT proposes a slide order, writes headlines and bullets and, if you ask, notes for the talk. The result is text. You build and design the slides yourself.
Its strength is the thinking before the slides: order, cuts, likely questions.
A good fit when you have a company template and only need the content.
2. Inside PowerPoint: the ChatGPT for PowerPoint add-in
The add-in runs as a sidebar in PowerPoint. According to OpenAI it drafts a deck from your source material, adds or revises slides, tightens a deck for a specific audience and answers questions about its story, while the slides stay editable.
It is open to every plan; Free and Go have limited use, and on Plus, Pro and Business your plan's usage limit applies.
A good fit when you already work in PowerPoint and want to add or tighten slides.
3. As a file: ChatGPT Work
ChatGPT Work creates documents, spreadsheets and presentations as editable files. It can follow a reference file, such as an older deck's master slides, or a saved template. With Google Workspace connected, it creates native Google Slides.
What works depends on your plan, workspace settings, file type and surface. OpenAI notes that PowerPoint is not part of the Work desktop flow at launch; inside an open PowerPoint file you use the add-in.
A good fit when you need similar presentations again and again.
How to make a presentation with ChatGPT, step by step
Five steps from an empty chat to a reviewed deck. Copy the boxes into ChatGPT and fill in the square brackets.
Clarify the goal and the audience
Let ChatGPT ask first, so your facts end up in the deck.
I need a presentation for [occasion, e.g. a first meeting with a new client]. Before you draft anything, ask me up to eight questions about the goal, the audience, the length, the key numbers and the outcome I want. Wait for my answers.
Get an outline
One message per slide, as a full-sentence headline. Have gaps marked, not filled.
Using my answers, create an outline with [number] slides. For each slide, give a headline written as a full sentence that states the main point, and no more than three bullets. Where a number or fact from me is missing, write [MISSING] instead of inventing one.
Write slide text and speaker notes
Little text on the slide, the rest in the notes. Set a word limit, or you get paragraphs.
For each slide, write slide text of no more than 25 words under the headline, and speaker notes for about one minute: what I say, which example I use and how I lead into the next slide.
Build the slides
Paste the text into your own template, or let the add-in create the slides. OpenAI recommends asking for a plan before larger edits and duplicating the file first for important work.

Review before you present
OpenAI says outputs may be incomplete or incorrect and may not match your style. Check every number against your source and every slide for overflowing text, font sizes and spacing.
ChatGPT in PowerPoint: install and use the add-in
ChatGPT for PowerPoint is OpenAI's own add-in. This is how it gets into your PowerPoint, and how to get the most out of it, according to OpenAI.
Open Add-ins
In Microsoft PowerPoint, go to the Home tab and select Add-ins.
Search for ChatGPT
Add it, then open ChatGPT from the ribbon.
Sign in
Use the ChatGPT account that has access. The sidebar then works on the open presentation.
In companies: through your admin
If your organization cannot reach the Microsoft Store, a Microsoft 365 admin can deploy the add-in internally with its manifest file, under Integrated apps. On ChatGPT Business, admins enable it in the workspace settings.

Five prompts for common situations in small businesses. Replace the square brackets with your details; you do not need a file for any of them.
Outline for a client meeting
Starting from zero, with the meeting a few days away.
On [date] I am presenting our offer for [service] to [client, industry], 30 minutes, with [the owner and the purchasing lead] in the room. Goal: they book the middle of three packages. Create a 10-slide outline that starts with the client's situation and ends with one concrete next step. Full-sentence headlines, no more than three bullets per slide, missing facts as [MISSING].
Presentation for your bank
Annual review, a loan request or an investment to explain.
Create an 8-slide outline for our annual meeting with our bank. Our figures: [revenue, profit, headcount, plan for next year]. Request: [investment or loan with amount]. Plain, factual tone. Use only my figures and flag every point where a lender is likely to ask follow-up questions.
Turn notes into slide text
You have notes or minutes and need slides.
Here are my notes: [paste]. Turn them into slide text: one message per slide as the headline, no more than 25 words below it. Keep every number exactly as in my notes and add no new ones.
Anticipate objections
Before meetings where the questions decide the outcome.
Read this outline as [a skeptical CFO, a bank officer, a procurement manager]: [paste outline]. Which five questions or objections would come up? Suggest a short answer to each and the slide it belongs on.
In the add-in: insert one slide
The deck is done, one part is missing.
After the slide "[title]", add a slide with our three biggest risks and how we address each. Match this deck's style and do not change the other slides. Before editing, tell me what you plan to change.

Using ChatGPT and Slaide together

How do I install ChatGPT in PowerPoint?

Can ChatGPT use my company template?

Can ChatGPT create charts in PowerPoint?
According to OpenAI, charts, shapes and advanced formatting in the add-in may be limited. Check every chart yourself. Slaide does not create native PowerPoint charts either; its charts are editable shapes or an image.
Is ChatGPT for PowerPoint free, and what does ChatGPT cost?
The add-in is available on every plan, with limited use on Free and Go; there is no separate price. On OpenAI's German pricing page, in euros as of September 2026: Go €8, Plus €23, Pro from €103 a month; Business €26 per user a month, or €21 a month billed yearly. Local prices differ.
Is it safe to put client data into ChatGPT?
Data handling follows your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings, plus Microsoft's terms for the add-in. OpenAI's pricing page shows per plan whether content can be used for training; on Business it does not train on business data by default. Share only what the deck needs.
